Lawn vs Dhanak vs Cotton: A Guide to Pakistani Suit Fabrics

by Aureeza Collection

Lawn: the year-round favourite

Lawn is a fine, lightweight cotton weave — soft against the skin, breathable in heat, and light enough to layer under a shawl when it's cooler. It takes embroidery, digital prints, and block prints equally well, which is why most of our Fresh from Aureeza pieces are lawn. It creases easily, so a quick iron before wearing keeps it looking sharp.

Dhanak: warmth without the bulk

Dhanak is a heavier, slightly textured cotton-wool blend built for cooler weather. It holds embroidery beautifully — the raised thread work sits crisper on dhanak than on lawn — and drapes with a bit more structure, which is why you'll see it most in our winter pieces paired with wool shawls. It's warmer than lawn without the weight of a full wool suit.

Cotton: the everyday workhorse

Plain or printed cotton sits between the two — sturdier than lawn, cooler than dhanak, and the most forgiving fabric to stitch, wash, and wear on repeat. It's a practical pick for suits you'll wear often, like at-home or errand-running pieces, since it holds its shape wash after wash.

Quick pick guide

Hot weather, everyday wear: lawn.
Winter, want embroidery to stand out: dhanak.
Wearing it weekly and want it to last: cotton.

Caring for each fabric

Lawn: hand wash cold, iron while slightly damp. Dhanak: dry clean or gentle hand wash, never wring. Cotton: machine washable on a gentle cycle, but wash embroidered pieces inside-out.
